Coming soon! Lovely Marla

Black dogs hold a special place in my heart.   Did you know that they are usually the first ones to be put down in shelters, and the last ones to be adopted?  Neither did I until a few years ago  :(   It's very sad to think that the colour of a dogs fur would affect whether or not they lived or died.   There are many reasons for this, but none are rational.  I just don't understand it.  I can attest to how great black dogs are personally after fostering many wonderful black dogs over the years. They really are no different than other dogs.  I own a small black dog myself.   I wish more people would give them a chance and get to know their individual personality, temperament before they judge them based on the colour of their fur.

Please watch this YouTube Video on Black Dog Syndrome to fully understand this strange phenomenon.   If it helps change one person's view of Black Dogs and saves one dogs life, then it's worth it to post again.   Please...Take a Second Look...then give them a chance.

Our next foster dog is a lovely Black Lab named Marla.  Marla hails from Ohio and is 10 years young.  She's currently at the vets and will be having surgery for stones.  Once she's healthy enough to travel, she will be coming into rescue.  She didn't stand a chance in the shelter with no interest for a month!   From all accounts, her temperament is stellar.  I'm told she's the 'office dog'.   How could you not want to give her a chance? I fell in love right away after hearing her story and seeing her photo.  Here are her shelter photos below:

Stay tuned for Marla's pending arrival and close up with

Just in time for Halloween...introducing our newest (wee) foster boy, PUMPKIN!

With Halloween just around the corner, I couldn't think of a more appropriate name (and time) to introduce you to our newest foster boy PUMPKIN (all 5 lbs of him!!), arriving on October 4th.   Pumpkin comes to us from a U.S. shelter, where his chances were little to none of surviving.  You see, shelter staff (well meaning) mis-judged his age and guessed him to be around 8 years old, approximately.  This is considered (almost) a  'senior' at that age, practically a death sentence in a shelter. :(    The good news is that after being seen by vets, his 'new' age is now estimated to be approximately 2 !  Wow, what a difference.  Vets look at a dogs teeth to more accurately estimate a dogs age.  Here are a few pictures of Pumpkin in the shelter and on his FREEDOM ride to Canada!

Watch for Pumpkin's 'close-up' with Sheikh Photographers, coming SOON!

New foster dog Casey

Well, after a (very) brief fostering break, we decided to jump back into fostering.  We recently had the opportunity to 'temp' foster a little Yorkie x named 'Casey' for another foster home, but WE WERE forewarned... he is a heart stealer and we would probably end up wanting to foster him.  Well, I'm happy to report...they were right!  Casey is the sweetest little (velcro) dog who follows me everywhere I go.  He brought along a little stuffed squirrel, which he carries with him everywhere he goes!!  They are a 'bonded pair' so the stuffy goes with him when he's adopted.  Mercy Me!  it's the sweetest thing I have seen !!  We have had a few inquiries about Casey already (no surprise there!) and one good potential forever home, all  in less then a week in foster care.  Needless to say, we  may have a pending adoption in the very near future, so stay tuned!

Here are some amazing professional photos that were done of Casey,  by a terrific Photographer, Aisha of Sheikh Photography.  Please go to their Facebook Page and 'Like' them.  They are awesome and volunteer their time for rescued animals in need.  Great quality photos are so crucial to getting them adopted and make all the difference in the world!!  A huge Thank YOU again to Sheikh Photography for your time and dedication to the animals.
